Elisa Hudson

Elisa graduated in 1995 from Goldsmith's, London and worked in London for several years painting and exhibiting. Living near to the coast has been significant to the development of her paintings as in 1998 she moved to Kent where she still has her studio. A residency at The King's School Canterbury enabled her to work with children, developing their ideas and taking painting workshops, as well as allowing further time to devote to her own work.

Her work is based on a fascination with natural structures and their environment. She has a fascination with the sea and recent paintings depict shells and other objects found on the shoreline. The work began as a simple celebration of the objects found and from an interest in their unique differences, painted on an expanse of canvas in lines or simple patterns. The work developed to represent something more metaphoric; for example: how man uses or interprets various shells; as well as how the shells migrate and form. Other paintings look at how shells are used as tools, for scientific purposes and decoration.
