Jesus Barranco was born in Antequera near Malaga in 1960.
He is a Cancerian by birth date, which means he strives to live with order, measure and balance, sacrifice and imagination. He is the youngest of 6 children and his family moved to Valencia when he was 6 months old. He grew up painting and studying this vibrant Spanish port. He qualified with honours from the San Carlos School of Fine Art in Valencia from 1988-1993.
Jesus Barranco is an extremely accomplished artist and is one of the leading contemporary artists in Spain.
For Barranco, the landscape is an excuse to paint, demonstrating objectivity and figuratism. In his work, the absence of shades give an uncomplicated colour palette reminiscent of Rothko, where it seems that the walls of his buildings float on the misty horizon of the city. Natural landscapes articulate themselves in meandering water bands of colour, a chromatic range dominated by hot ochres and umbers and a textural rustic treatment that belies a superior point of view.
The work literally sizzles with the heat of the subject and scale of his compositions. They will enhance a wide range of interiors.
