Jon Barker was born in Yorkshire in 1950. Although initially working in business, his heart was in painting and over a twenty year period he trained himself to paint to a high professional standard and now enjoys a growing reputation for his lively and distinctive approach to landscape painting marked by an adventurous use of light and colour.

Jon Barker is intensely occupied with the beauty of the natural environment and he seeks to express his feelings about this subject matter in ways in which are true to his observations from the field.

Following a visit to Rome and then to Barcelona I found myself interpreting the architecture and the street life of these places in ways which re-invigorated my whole approach to painting... The Witterings and Looe seascape series is a personal response to the outstanding natural beauty of the English coastline, which lends itself well to my free and fluid painting style...
